Editorial Policy

Since 2001, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia has been focusing on social, political and environmental evolutions currently taking place in the 11 countries of Southeast Asia.

Subject to the approval and validation of the evaluation committee, IRASEC’s academic projects often result in the production of publications.

These publications (in French and/or English) are made available to the general public and come in the two following formats:

•  Online Publications

These “Discussion” and “Occasional” Papers are generally the results of fieldwork conducted by young French and Southeast Asian researchers.

Discussion and Occasional Papers are available for download for free in PDF format from the website. IRASEC plans to add its case studies and debates from its yearly “Southeast Asia” collection to the list of available downloads in the near future.

•  Books

“National Monographs”: Each monograph goes beyond a mere analysis of a country’s situation by re-situating the country within the wider context of regional integration.

“Southeast Asia” Collection: In recalling the major events of the past year in each of the region’s 11 countries, this collection helps to better understand the following year’s challenges and perspectives.

“Focus – Contemporary Southeast Asia” Collection: This series is currently under development in partnership with Les Indes Savantes. This particular collection will consist of monographs dealing with (trans)national studies and/or in-depth analyses that will help to decipher the issues and challenges of contemporary Southeast Asia.

Thematic studies are published in association with foreign research/academic publishers, such as NUS Press, ISEAS Publishing and World Scientific in Singapore, and I.B. Tauris in London. These English-language publications help to contribute to IRASEC’s international outreach and visibility.

IRASEC publications are available in French bookstores or directly from the publishers. They are also available in international bookstores in Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, as well as in some bookstores in Lao PDR and Vietnam.

Our partner bookstores in Asia are: Carnets d’Asie (Thailand and Cambodia), Monument Books (Lao PDR), and Select Books (Singapore).

IRASEC publications may also be ordered from various online sales platforms.

The catalogue of IRASEC’s publications since the Institute’s foundation is regularly updated and is available in both hardcopy and digital formats.
