Abstract
My thesis focuses on the training of language teachers, particularly French language teachers, in Vietnam. It starts with two observations. Firstly, reflexivity is an inevitable modality of conscious professionalisation, especially in education, in a constantly changing world. Secondly, reflexivity through questioning and critiques comes into conflict with certain ethical, social and religious values of Vietnam. Being trainer myself, I seized the stages of possibly constructing professionalism through offering reflective writings to students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education for two years. I analysed the writings and progress in a corpus of three selected students as prospective teachers. My qualitative and content analysis allows us to validate our hypotheses. Accordingly, reflective writing is a great way to develop self-awareness as a professional individual, as well as a flexible and fruitful professional identity. That would help to develop the capability for a career in an unforeseen and evolving world.
