Abstract
In the eighteenth century, philosophers and the people became interested in foreign civilizations more than before. The interest for the East had spread to the western countries at that time led by French philosophers and French writers who wrote stories pertaining to Siam in their works or novels. This study focuses on French texts in the Age of Enlightenment, including the study relating to the portrayal of the Siamese during the eighteenth century. This study also focuses on the spreading of knowledge in relation to the Siamese to western society. In addition, the philosophers’perspective regarding the kingdom of Siam have been studied accordingly.
