François-Xavier Bonnet is a geographer, doctoral student at the French Institute of Geopolitics (University of Paris VIII). His thesis focuses on the interconnections between clan conflicts (rido) and Muslim insurgencies on the island of Mindanao. He is the author of three chapters in the contemporary Philippine national monograph under the direction of Willam Guéraiche, to be published in the Savant Indies. He is also the author of several articles on Philippine geopolitics, including The Spratlys : A Past Revisited, in World Bulletin, Volume 23, July-December 2004, Institute of International Legal Studies, University of the Philippines Law Center.
François-Xavier Bonnet is also a consultant for various United Nations agencies (notably UNESCO) and for some municipalities in Mindanao with local conflicts to resolve. He resides in the Philippines.
