The Pratinada site: hearing Southeast Asia

This website contains sounds, mainly music and speech, recorded in Southeast Asia, during the colonial era and after.

Development of the Pratinada website began in June 2021. It is part of the project Decolonizing Southeast Asian Sound Archives (DeCoSEAS), funded by European funds from the Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPICH), 2021-2024.

Global Young Scientist Summit 2025

IRASEC was represented at this year’s GYSS by Clément Berthou, a doctoral student in economics at Grenoble Alpes University. He had the opportunity to present his research on the dollarization of Cambodia in a poster session, and to meet the two other CNRS representatives present : Paul Bruand and Lucile Vaschalde, both post-docs in Japan.

In Indonesia, 2024 was punctuated by election campaigns and various ballots : presidential and legislative votes (February 14), then to renew 545 regional chiefs (November 27), most of whom were previously represented on an interim basis.
While some mass-based parties have experienced a setback, and the number of candidates from political dynasties has increased compared to previous elections, do these elections mark a renewal or, on the contrary, are they part of a continuity ? How should we interpret the large number of army and police officers (both active and veteran) appointed to the Cabinet of newly-elected President Prabowo Subianto ? Have the numerous modifications and manipulations of electoral regulations and mechanisms that have marked 2023 and 2024 eroded citizens’ confidence in the democratic system ?

Report on the IRASEC Winter School 2024

Sustainable Development Studies in Southeast Asia (SUDSSEA)
Bangkok & Manila, November 25-December 7, 2024

 

The Institute for Research on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) held its third Winter Doctoral School from November 25 to December 7, 2024. Dedicated to sustainable development studies in Southeast Asia, the two-week event brought together 20 students in Bangkok and Manila. The organizing committee was made up of IRASEC, the main coordinator, and two partners : the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology at Thammasat University (Bangkok), and the Center for Integrative Development Studies (CIDS) at the University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines).

Launch of the SEA-ROADS research project

On December 10 and 11, 2024, in Bangkok, Éric Daudé launched the SEA-ROADS project with his partners S. Boyer, A. Cebeillac, F. Girond, V. Herbreteau and R. Paul. among others, the SEA-ROADS project. He gave a presentation on intra-urban dengue risk models.
