The urban migration of young people in Laos is often driven by the dual motivations of escaping poverty and seeking a different way of life. Previous research has demonstrated that rural-urban migration brings with it a mix of economic opportunities and heightened sexual risks. However, less attention has been given to sedentary populations residing in areas with significant migratory activity. While migration is often viewed in terms of economic opportunities, it also brings vulnerabilities, particularly in regions of rapid development like Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

L’IRASEC, en partenariat avec la FTCC et la librairie Carnets d’Asie, organise le lancement de l’ouvrage L’Asie du Sud-Est 2026 autour d’une table ronde réunissant les éditeurs de l’ouvrage (Jérémy Jammes et Gabriel Facal, directeur et directeur adjoint de l’IRASEC), ainsi que Cyrille Moyon (auteur du chapitre sur la sécurité alimentaire) et Jean Sol-Macher (Chef du service économique de Bangkok à l’Ambassade de France en Thaïlande).

The article on the seroprevalence of dengue and chikungunya infections among children aged 10–15 years in Bangkok, in which Éric Daudé collaborated with Chulalongkorn University and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), has been published in Plos Negelected Tropical Disease.

As part of the Aguman Ning Belwan 2026 conference, Gabriel Facal will present a plenary talk entitled “Agroecology in Southeast Asia : Harnessing Interdisciplinarity to Study a Strong Driver of Sustainability”.

As part of the 26^th edition of the Reflection Seminar, which will take place from Thursday, March 12 to Friday, March 13, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, Jérémy Jammes will present the annual publication “L’Asie du Sud-Est 2026 - Bilan, Enjeux et perspectives”, and Elisabeth Peyroux will give a presentation on artificial intelligence entitled “Entre innovation et contrôle : les enjeux de l’IA urbaine à Singapour” [Between Innovation and Control : The Challenges of Urban AI in Singapore].
As in previous years, the meeting will be held behind closed doors and will be conducted mainly in French. The seminar will therefore not be open to the public.

En lien avec la Fondation pour le Droit continental, le chargé de mission juridique à l’IRASEC mettra en œuvre une stratégie de recherche et d’influence par le droit définie conjointement avec le directeur de l’IRASEC et le magistrat de liaison à l’ambassade de France en Thaïlande.

L’Asie du Sud-Est 2026 propose une analyse claire et approfondie des principaux événements ayant marqué l’année dans les onze pays de la région. Le 14ᵉ Congrès du Parti communiste vietnamien (PCV) s’est tenu du 19 au 23 janvier 2026 à Hanoï et a réuni 1 586 délégués, représentant plus de 5 millions de membres du Parti à l’échelle nationale. Sans surprise, Tô Lâm, le secrétaire général du PCV, a été reconduit pour un second mandat. Après avoir occupé le poste de ministre de la Sécurité publique de 2016 à 2024, ce général (de police) avait été nommé président en mai 2024, puis secrétaire général du Parti après le décès de Nguyên Phu Trong en juillet 2024.
