Urban violence and collective identities in Burma

As part of the ANR project “Experiences of Violence and forms of Mobilization in Myanmar”, CNRS is recruiting a researcher for a full-time 18-month contract.
The researcher will be part of the ANR EVIMOB project team (CASE/UMR 8170) and will work in close collaboration with it and with the Burmese partners in Myanmar. He/she will be responsible for co-coordinating Work Package 2 - How does mobilisation inform experiences of violence ? - but will also take part in cross-disciplinary reflections linked to the research of WP1 - Repertoires of contention : cross-disciplinary analysis of mobilisation, history, and cycles of collective action. In general, he/she will be involved in the project’s reflections and programming.
The researcher will develop a research project on the effects of violence in the constitution of collective identities in urban and/or rural areas in Myanmar (fieldwork subject to the country’s political conditions) and/or on the country’s borders (Thailand) with actors from Burmese society.
He/she will be involved in analysing the data collected and publishing the results in the form of scientific articles and presenting them at international conferences and on the project’s Carnet Hypothèses website. Finally, the researcher will be involved in the preparatory activities for the programme’s final workshop, to be held in Hong Kong in 2027. He/she will attend the meetings planned for this purpose and will play a key role in organising the various collective productions that will result from it.
The person recruited will be employed by CNRS on a full-time fixed-term contract for a period of 18 months (eventually part-time for 36 months). Remuneration will be based on the salary scale for contract staff at the CNRS and on professional experience acquired in connection with the duties of the post. The position is located at CASE, on the EHESS premises at the Campus Condorcet (Aubervilliers).
