Despite its recent growth in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic, One Heath can be traced back to the colonial period when it was used to control the health of local communities and their animals while exploiting natural resources. At present, it is necessary to move away from this asymmetrical colonialist view and develop more inclusive perspectives.

Doctoral Winter School: Transnational Migration in Southeast Asia (TRIMSEA)

Bangkok & Kuala Lumpur, 27 November - 9 December 2023

The Research Institute of Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) organises an annual winter school in the social sciences and humanities, in collaboration with a range of European and Southeast Asian universities and research centers. The purpose of these workshops is to stimulate discourse and exchange regarding research on Southeast Asia within the scope of social sciences and humanities. IRASEC’s winter schools are designed to endorse comparative and regional research methodologies, facilitate the interaction of students, and promote co-tutorship and co-supervision of dissertations for early-career researchers in Southeast Asia, particularly those who exhibit an interest in continuing their studies in France. In 2023, the IRASEC winter school will be dedicated to migration in Southeast Asia.

L’IRASEC accueille chaque année trois stagiaires pour une durée de quatre mois chacun-e dans ses locaux de Bangkok (Thaïlande). Ce stage à plein temps offre aux étudiant-e-s l’opportunité de travailler dans un laboratoire de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales sur le sud-est asiatique contemporain. Les périodes de stages sont : janvier-avril, mai-août et septembre-décembre.

Assessing ‘Successful’ Community Based Research: How has Knowledge been Co-Produced?

The Seminar to be held on June 15-16 2023 explores existing and emerging innovative framework on Coproduction, building upon 20 years of Community-Based Research (CBR) in Thailand. This seminar is the culmination of an assessment of successful CBR projects, conducted between 2019-2022, and will explore five case studies to better understand implementation, applied methodologies and multi-stakeholder criteria for what determines ‘success’.
Additional case studies from other contexts (Indonesia, Lao, Timor-Leste) will be discussed from a comparative perspective.
