This international conference is organized by the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (PSP3), IPB University, in strategic partnership with the Program on Alternative Development (AltDev), UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies, University of the Philippines and Institut de Recherche sur l’Asie du Sud-Est Contemporaine (IRASEC), Bangkok as the international partners and Sajogyo Institute as the national partner.

ANR AltLife-SSEA (2026 - 2028)

Relying on a transdisciplinary approach, it deploys a three-fold analysis of the material arrangements and spatial (re)rooting, the social and institutional reconfigurations of collectives and the (cosmo)political imaginaries and subjectivities that shape them.
The aim is to examine how collectives are influenced by national, regional, and global norms and structures—and, in turn, how their life projects can have an impact at different levels.

At this workshop, participants will discuss their work with comics, video-making, film programming, artists’ residencies, literary ethnography, podcasts, and other inventive approaches to research and writing.

Tourisme and Covid-19 dans le village javanais de Bejiharjo (Java, Indonésie)

This article is a reflection on tourism in Asia in light of the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on a case study of the Javanese village of Bejiharjo. The village is located in the Gunung Kidul region (“southern mountains”), which was classified as a geopark by UNESCO in 2012. It illustrates the new challenges posed by Indonesian tourism recovery systems in terms of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Founded in Bangkok twenty-five years ago, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia has established itself as a major centre of scholarship.
