Abstract
The main goal of the thesis is to increase the long-term sustainability of current and future rehabilitation efforts on mangrove ecosystem in Thailand with minimal negative impact of different stakeholders. This is to be achieved through obtaining strategic lessons on various driving forces, impacts, understanding the effectiveness of ongoing rehabilitation approaches and identifying the most promising rehabilitation and restoration approach for mangrove conservation area. The another goal of this thesis is the identification of underlying limitations of sustainable rehabilitation and key outputs required to address them in collaboration with responsible government organizations such as Department of Marine and Costal Resources, Royal Forest Department and Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Thailand. The proposed research will focus on identifying loss and degradation zones of various mangrove communities and their associated aboveground carbon stock within the conservation area. Also, developing long term field sensor based condition monitoring station within the mangrove ecosystem.
