Experience

Abigaël Pesses is conducting fieldwork research in Thaïland since 1996, with a focus on Northern Thai and Karen populations. Her Ph.D in anthropology, obtained at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre, deal with the social and political forms of appropriating environmental issues by various Thai national actors : minorities, NGOs, Buddhist Sangha, State and the King. From 2007 to 2009, she taught anthropology of Southeast Asia at the University of Provence (France) and thereafter she got involved in digital humanities projects. As a deputy director of IRASEC (2014-2018), Abigael Pesses coordinates research programs, scientific cooperation, and publications on Southeast Asia, mostly in French and English. She is currently managing an Open access publication project and a collective axis of research on the relations between societies and environments in Southeast Asia, in partnership with Chulalongkorn and Chiang Mai universities (https://nature.hypotheses.org/).
