Workshop
Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development in Asia: Governance and Societies Confronted with Environmental Challenges
workshop SustainAsia
Institut Français de Pondichéry
15 – 18 october 2018
The workshop will bring together members of the 5 French research institutes (UMIFRE) in Asia, namely the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities (CSH), New Delhi, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC), Bangkok, the Maison Franco-Japonaise (MFJ), Tokyo, and The French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC), Hong Kong.
They have invited one partner each, from the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, the Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, the Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technology, and the University of Tokyo (Department of Urban Engineering).
This is the kick-off workshop of SustainAsia, an international research workshop funded by CNRS (INSHS).
The origin of this project is based on two findings:
- Scientifically, the need to examine more thoroughly the challenges raised in Asia by a fast-paced, spatially heterogeneous economic growth, that is taking place in a fragile environment
- From an institutional viewpoint, the interest of a project federating the sub-network of the 5 UMIFREs of Asia in order to constitute a “network of networks”.
Christine CABASSET took part of the workshop with Coastal development and environmental challenges seen from two research projects (Indonesia and Timor-Leste).
