The URBALTOUR project analyses the convergences between urban and tourist logics based on high altitude resorts founded during the colonial era in India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. It is based on two hypotheses : tourism acts as a powerful vector for the circulation of globalised urban models and it contributes to the profound restructuring of the systems of actors. It is structured around four axes : the tools of urban production by and for tourism, the distinctive use of colonial heritage, the appropriation of the mountain by panoptic tourist sites, and a digital ethnography of places of online display and protest. By studying this still neglected subaltern urbanisation, URBALTOUR will contribute to a better understanding of the diversity of the urban fact in the world from a postcolonial perspective.
