The seminar is jointly organized by the French Embassy in Thailand and the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC). It will gather experts from Thailand, the United Nations and France, providing a comparative approach to global issues of road safety and formulating concrete recommendations. It will include three round-table discussions and presentations led by experts from various Southeast Asian countries and France (magistrates and police officers), for a comparative approach to the context and challenges of road safety in Southeast Asia, and the formulation of concrete recommendations for improving road safety. The round tables will be held in English, with Thai interpretation.

Bringing together the key stakeholders in global health in Thailand and the region and focusing 1) on the impacts of climate change on human health in SEA and 2) on a better anticipation, prevention and preparation for public emergencies and climate change under the One health approach, this meeting will provide space for the region’s climate and health stakeholders — civil society, governments, academies, development and technical partners :

1. To be equipped with the latest information and updates on climate and health science, evidence and discourses ;
2. To develop regional collaborations on climate and health and identify common key issues, priorities and concerns ;
3. To co-create and agree on a multi-stakeholder action agenda on climate and health for the region and recommendations for regional mitigation policies.

As part of the 13th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 13), Marielle Morin (GIS Asie France), Keng We Koh (NTU, Singapore) and Jérôme Samuel (IRASEC, Bangkok) have held two round tables entitled “Sustaining collections in the digital age/ Asian studies collections in the digital age”.
During these discussions, participants - librarians, curators, archivists, researchers and policy-makers - have been invited to share their experiences, best practices and innovative approaches.

The Research Institute of Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC) organises annually a doctoral winter school, in collaboration with a range of European and Southeast Asian universities and research centres.
In 2024, the IRASEC Winter school will be dedicated to Sustainable Development Studies in Southeast Asia, and will be co-organised and co-hosted by the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology, Thammasat University and the Center for Integrative Development Studies, University of the Philippines in Diliman.

Le 1er juillet 2024 à 19h aura lieu le lancement du Carnet de l’IRASEC Defiance, Civil Resistance and Violence in Post-Coup Myanmar dirigé par Carine Jaquet, au Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand, Bangkok.

Divers contributeurs, dont des écrivains, des activistes et des artistes, approfondiront les aspects clés des thèmes du livre. Ils seront rejoints par :

• Nyi Nyi Kyaw, chaire de recherche sur les déplacements forcés en Asie du Sud-Est, Université de Chiang Mai.
• Kyle Nyana, chercheur basé au Myanmar avec plus de 15 ans d’expérience professionnelle dans l’analyse de la gouvernance et de l’économie politique.

Dans le cadre de la Réunion régionale Asie-Océanie du réseau culturel et de coopération (30 et 31 mai 2024, Bangkok), Jérôme Samuel intervenait au nom de l’IRASEC dans une table ronde intitulée « Valoriser nos actions de diplomatie scientifique pour renforcer notre attractivité et notre influence dans la région ».

Dans le cadre de la conférence « The Future of Sustainability in ASEAN : Agriculture Act », Gabriel Facal proposera une intervention intitulée « Alternative agrarian experiences in Southeast Asia : questioning scales ». La manifestation est organisée dans le cadre du réseau « ASEAN-China norms II » (faisant suite à l’IRN ASEAN-China norms I).
